Welcome to Big Bore Exhaust!

If you are looking for a replacement aftermarket exhaust for your car, a motorcycle exhaust or truck exhaust you’ve come to the right place. Stainless steel exhausts (custom exhausts) can last longer than original equipment manufacturer (OEM) exhausts. They can have a better sound, be less restrictive and improve the look of your vehicle.

Increase Performance with a Custom Exhaust

If you’re looking for increase in your engine’s performance then a free-er flowing exhaust system may help to maximize peak horsepower. This is typically accomplished by making the path from engine to exhaust exit as straight as possible. Achieved, mainly, by using a consistent diameter pipe through the exhaust system and eliminating obstacles such as catalytic converters and pre-catalytic converters or by replacing the muffler or silencer with a less restrictive (and usually louder) one.

Engines that are fed by carburettors may require new needles fitted to maximise power outputs. Whilst electronic injection systems may require a new mapping download. Either way the exhaust manufacturer should be able to provide the necessary information along with the system.

Eliminating catalytic converters and other emissions control hardware can often leave the vehicle illegal for use on the road. More power may be released from the engine by the use of an electric or basic cable activated exhaust cut-out. This effectively opens the exhaust either before the catalytic converter or after. Making your engine ‘breathe’ a little free-er.

However, catalytic converters are there to clean up your exhaust outputs. Installing these cut-outs before the catalytic converter may be illegal, as the exhaust outputs aren’t being cleaned properly. If, however, you place them after the catalytic converter (as in just before the mufflers or silencers) it might be legal, as the exhaust is already cleaned as it escapes. Fitting cut-outs in most cars should improve your horsepower.

Advantages of Fitting Aftermarket Exhausts

For the most part, the first thing you may notice is an increase in peak engine power. You may also find that you get more miles/kilometres from a given tank of fuel.

In most cases the look of your vehicle will be massively improved and, for most, the sound and feel of the vehicle will be more ‘alive’.

It might not be all good news ….

If you remove the catalytic converter you may fall foul of emission laws. You may also notice a higher amount of fumes and smells coming from your vehicle.

Your engine’s sound will also be far more noticeable. (But isn’t that what you were after! )

If the aftermarket exhaust is either incorrectly designed or incorrectly fitted then there can be a loss of low rpm torque, and a decrease of fuel economy.

With some vehicles, fitting a custom exhaust can make the warranty of that vehicle void.

Summary

An aftermarket exhaust or silencer may not necessarily modify the appearance, sound, or performance of your vehicle. This is particularly true when the replacement is for a component that has worn out or when an OEM part is particularly expensive.

However, with big bore exhausts, custom exhausts, motorcycle exhausts, an increase in sound, feel, performance and looks is exactly what you’re after. Find the exhaust that matches your car by clicking here.
